Dr hab. Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak, prof. UWr, jest współzałożycielką (wspólnie z prof. Markiem Oziewiczem) Pracowni Literatury oraz Kultury Dziecięcej i Młodzieżowej w Instytucie Filologii Angielskiej Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego w 2003 roku. Kierowała Pracownią w latach 2013-2022 i pozostawała jej członkinią do 2024 roku. Jest również współzałożycielką i członkinią Rady Programowej Centrum Badań Literatury dla Dzieci i Młodzieży na Wydziale Neofilologii Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego. Zajmuje się współczesną literaturą i kulturą dziecięcą, studiami nad dzieciństwem, posthumanizmem oraz badaniami partycypacyjnymi z dziećmi jako współbadaczami. Publikuje m.in. na temat badań z dziećmi, relacji międzypokoleniowych, nowomaterialistycznego podejścia do literatury dziecięcej, antropocenu i poezji tworzonej przez dzieci. Jest autorką książki Yes to Solidarity, No to Oppression: Radical Fantasy Fiction and Its Young Readers (2016). Zbiór Intergenerational Solidarity in Children’s Literature and Film (2021), który współredagowała z Zoe Jacques, otrzymał Edited Book Award 2023, nagrodę przyznawaną przez International Research Society for Children’s Literature. Współredagowała również (z Ireną Barbarą Kallą) zbiór Children’s Literature and Intergenerational Relationships: Encounters of the Playful Kind (2021) oraz Rulers of Literary Playgrounds: Politics of Intergenerational Play in Children’s Literature (2021), a także (z Macareną Garcíą-González) Children’s Cultures after Childhood (2023) oraz (z Terri Doughty i Janet Grafton) Cultures and Pedagogies in the Anthropocene: Multidisciplinary Entanglements (2025). Od 2015 roku jest również redaktorką recenzji publikacji naukowych w czasopiśmie  International Research in Children’s Literature, a od 2018 roku – członkinią komitetu redakcyjnego czasopisma Book 2.0. Jest także członkinią komitetu naukowego serii LETTERATURA PER L’INFANZIA: Studi, Testi e Pratiche educative wydawnictwa Franco Angeli (od 2022 roku) oraz komitetu redakcyjnego serii Anthem Young Adult and Children’s Literature wydawnictwa Anthem Press.

Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak jest stypendystką Fundacji na Rzecz Nauki Polskiej (2003 i 2004), Internationale Jugendbibliothek w Monachium (2005), Fundacji Kościuszkowskiej (2013, Rutgers University) oraz Polsko-Amerykańskiej Komisji Fulbrighta (2014, Rutgers University). W latach 2016-2017 uczestniczyła w pracach zespołu realizującego projekt “Learning to Include”, który został laureatem konkursu o granty Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) Departamentu Stanu USA w kategorii Human Rights and Social Inclusion of Vulnerable Populations. Projektem kierował Bartosz Wilimborek z Warszawskiego Centrum Innowacji Edukacyjno-Społecznych i Szkoleń. Aktywności w ramach projektu dotyczyły rozwijania i promocji różnorodnych metod edukacji szkolnej dotyczącej niepełnosprawności. W latach 2014-2019, współreprezentowała Polskę w COST Action E-READ: Evolution of reading in the age of digitization, uczestnicząc w pracach grupy Developmental Aspects of Reading oraz pełniąc funkcję Stakeholder Liaison Officers: Reading/Literacy Promoters.  W latach 2017-2018 Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak uzyskała i zrealizowała grant w ramach Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship na Anglia Ruskin University. Jest także stypendystką programu im. M. Bekkera Narodowej Agencji Wymiany Akademickiej (Anglia Ruskin University, 2020).

W latach 2018-2024 Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak pełniła funkcję koordynatorki (z ramienia UWr) w programie Erasmus Mundus International Master: Children’s Literature, Media, & Culture. Od września 2023 bierze udział realizacji programu Erasmus Mundus International Master: Children’s Literature, Media, & Cultural Entrepreneurship. Od 2023 roku pełni funkcję kierownika (z ramienia UWr) międzynarodowego projektu Seen and Heard: Young People’s Voices and Freedom of Expression, realizowanego we współpracy z Uniwersytetem Maltańskim, Uniwersytetem Humboldtów i Amnesty International Polska. Od 2025 roku pełni funkcję kierownika (z ramienia UWr) w międzynarodowym projekcie CoREM: Collective Remembrance: Engaging Youth Through Curatorial Practices, finansowanym przez Komisję Europejską. Instytucją wiodącą w projekcie jest Uniwersytet Pompeu Fabry, a jego koordynatorką – dr Macarena García-González.

 Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak angażuje się także w działalność popularyzatorską i organizacyjną. W latach 2017-2021 była członkinią rady wykonawczej International Research Society for Children’s Literature i koordynowała program mentoringowy IRSCL. W 2017 roku była też mentorką w pierwszej edycji programu TopMinds, którego inicjatorami są Stowarzyszenie Top 500 Innovators oraz Polsko-Amerykańska Komisja Fulbrighta. W 2019 roku była członkinią jury konkursu Książka Roku Polskiej Sekcji IBBY. Od 2023 r. jest afiliowana przy Center for Climate Literacy na University of Minnesota, gdzie współredaguje czasopismo dla edukatorów  Climate Literacy in Education. Jest również członkiem zespołu literatury dziecięcej w Museum of Childhood Ireland. W latach 2021-2023 brała udział w projekcie poświęconym komunikacji międzypokoleniowej, realizowanym przez Fundację Margines, we współpracy z Forum Darczyńców oraz dzięki wsparciu Fundacji BNP Paribas, w wyniku którego powstała między innymi publikacja (we współautorstwie z dr hab. Ewą Maciejewską-Mroczek, UW) „Najlepiej zapytać: Jak się komunikować z młodymi osobami? Jak o nich rozmawiać?”. Od 2024 r. uczestniczy w międzynarodowym projekcie edukacyjnym „EDU-CLIMA: Cross-disciplinary EDUcation for CLIMateAction”, realizowanym w ramach ARQUS Innovation Fund 2024 (Ad Hoc Bottom-up Initiatives).
